She Had A Name, Did The Flat Character Fall Out of Character? 2024.

She Had a Name, Did the Flat Character Fall Out of Character? is a solo performance in which the artist takes on the roles of both narrator and character. It tells the story of a supposedly flat character who awakens from her slumber upon noticing the painted horse in the artwork before her come to life. This awakening propels her into action, starting with the act of giving herself a proper name. The performance draws on the literary concepts of flat and round characters, which symbolise constrained versus expansive identities. It challenges these constructs while opposing the pervasive stereotype of waiting women often depicted in history, fine arts, literature, and film.
